Rapid Rewards Points: If you booked with points, cancellation returns the points to your account immediately with no re-deposit fee — regardless of fare type.
How Southwest's Cancellation Credit Works
When you cancel a Wanna Get Away fare, you receive a travel credit (formerly called "travel funds") for the full ticket value. These credits do not expire as of 2022 — Southwest permanently eliminated expiry dates on Rapid Rewards travel credits.

Southwest Flight Cancelled by the Airline?
If Southwest cancels your flight, you have three options: (1) Rebook on the next available Southwest flight at no charge, (2) Receive a full cash refund, or (3) Accept travel credit. Always request the cash refund if you no longer wish to travel — you're entitled to it under DOT rules.
